Garnet Street

Welcome to our house in Broken Hill.

About

We are the current owners and before us was the Duffy's. As out of towners we do not know much of the history of the property but what we can gather we will add to these pages

Climate Control

Heating in the winter is provided by a single and very effective Rinnai gas heater which is enough. We also have a split air conditioner which rarely gets used (only to make sure it still works!). The house also has four fireplaces which are now only decorative. The previous owner covered the chimneys when replacing the roof after the hail-storms of 2006. We have thought about reinstating them but have found the existing heating works well.

Cooling in the summer like most houses in Broken Hill is managed by an evaporative cooler most of the time and very occaisonally the split air-conditioner. We also sometimes use the ceiling fans. We have found the high ceilings and good airflow have kept us very comfortable in all the weather Broken Hill throws at us.

Swimming Pool

Moving to an outback town from the east coast of Australia we were worrried about missing the sea. Having a pool has been our greatest luxury.

Water

We had heard in the past about Broken Hill's water troubles but this was resolved when the government put in the new pipeline from Wentworth.

History

Originally a single roomed stone house, like so many homes in Broken Hill, it has grown.
